Biography 1984

Further to the exhibition held at the Lawrence Ross Gallery in Beverly Hills (the catalogue is introduced by Plinius), he takes part in the Christchurch Festival Exhibition, held at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery in Christchurch, New Zealand. On this occasion of a journey to the antipodes, New Zealand and Australia, Gribaudo produces small sketches exclusively using local colours and pigments, in the attempt to bring back the feeling and atmosphere of the Australian landscape, setting great store by the experience gained in China. While in Australia, he visits an area near Alice Springs where dinosaur fossils had been discovered. The same animals or rather reproductions of these extinct animals of which he had admired the skeletons and reconstruction of bodies, including habitat, for hours over previous years in New York, at the Museum of Natural Science. The series of dinosauri is the outcome of this encounter with the Alice Springs fossils, which will keep him busy, albeit with pauses and digressions, up to the very present. Dinosauri is a series of “mixed” works on jute, paper, flano, polystyrene, using “collage”, bronze, lead and antimony, including various other techniques and are exhibited for the first time in 1987 at the “Galleria Bergamini” in Milan on occasion of the “Gribaudo Dinosaurus” exhibition. “Fabbri Editori” bring out a book with the same name specifically for the occasion, including texts by Carlo Fruttero and Franco Lucentini.
